I'll probably switch to Thunderbird on my Windows end soon enough.

It lacks advanced calendaring functions and is definitely a replacement for Outlook Express.
For a professional environment, you should consider thunderbird + sunbird. Synching with WM Pdas and Palm OS is still a hassle as far I now.
Zimbra + Thunderbird might be worth considering as well for a complete replacement of MS Exchange.
